Why are we here?
We are two experienced microbiologists and bioinformaticians who wanted to share our knowledge and bring applied results to companies.
Who are we?
Gabrielle Scheffer, MSc
CEO & Founder
she/her
With more than 10 years of experience in microbiology, Gabrielle completed a BSc with honours in microbiology and molecular biology in 2017 (Universite de Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada), and a MSc in environmental microbiology in 2020 (University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada).
Her research focused on extremophiles: microorganisms inhabiting extreme environments (high temperature, high salinity, high radiation levels, etc). She worked on numerous samples from different environments including, but not limited to, unconventional oil reservoirs (onshore/offshore), agricultural farms, oceanic sediments and lakes.

In the recent years, she has applied her knowledge and interest of bioinformatics to lead multiple metagenomics studies which have helped companies answer key questions. Because of this, she decided to start Decodomics to expand her ability to provide services beyond the academic world.
Srijak Bhatnagar, PhD
CSO & Founder
he/him
Srijak Bhatnagar has been working on developing and carrying out bioinformatic analyses since the early years of metagenomics. In the last 16 years as a bioinformatician, he has worked on improving and applying metagenomics techniques to study environments as varied as marine and freshwater ecosystems, soils, plants, and animals.
He received his MS in Bioinformatics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California Davis. He worked as a bioinformatician for UC Davis Genome Center and is currently a professor of Computational Biology at Athabasca University. An ardent lover of “all things microbe”, his research focuses on microbial markers for and bioremediation of contaminated environments.
